ISO 9001 refers to the international standard that defines the requirements for a quality management (QMS) system. To prove that their products and services satisfy the requirements of customers and regulators, organizations utilize this standard. It is the most commonly used in the ISO 9000 series. Organizations may also be able to verify their conformity to it.

ISO 9001 was first published in 1987 by International Organization for Standardization. (ISO) It is an international organisation that includes the national standards bodies from over 160 nations. The most recent ISO 9001 version was released in September of 2015.

All companies that utilize ISO 9001 are encouraged to switch to ISO 9001:2015 as quickly as possible. This does not include only those that have been certified to ISO 9001:2008 but also any organizations involved in training or certifying other organizations.

Companies that are ISO 9001:2008-certified should have switched to the new standard by September 14, 2018.

If you're ISO 9001 journey is just starting or you're making the transition to the revision for 2015 the first step is to obtain ISO 9001.2015.

Companies that are ISO 9001:2008 certified should have migrated to the 2015 standard by September 14, 2018.

Previous versions of ISO 9001
The first edition was published in 1987. ISO 9001 was subject to revisions in 1994, 2000, and again in 2008. The most recent revision of ISO 9001 was published in September of 2015.

ISO 9001.1994 included a number of modifications to enhance the control clauses for development and design. Additionally, it provided clarifications. The 1994 series modified ISO 9002/9003.
The ISO 9001:2008 revision sought to clarify issues raised during the application of ISO 9001:2000.
